October is SIDS Awareness Month

October is SIDS Awareness Month Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is the unexplained sudden death of an infant under one year of age. As the leading cause of death in children between one month and one year of age, SIDS is something every child care worker, parent, and caregiver should know about. Child care workers should be especially vigilant, as a disproportionate amount of SIDS deaths occur in child care settings: 20% of SIDS deaths occur in these settings, but based on the time that children spend in child care, that number should only be around 9%.
